Booking a place at the Symposium
The Oxford Symposium is held at St. Catherine’s College. Opened in 1962, St. Catz is Oxford’s only Modernist College. Danish architect Arne Jacobsen designed its core buildings and their fittings, which are considered modern masterpieces and are protected by a Grade I architectural listing. The College lies just south of the city centre, only a 10-15 minute walk from the Bodleian Library. Details and pictures can be found on the college website.
St Catz offers a large number of comfortable, ensuite rooms, which are conveniently located in close proximity to our dining and lecture rooms. Symposiasts may book these for extra nights before and after the Symposium at the ‘Bed & Breakfast’ rate listed on the registration form. A limited number of double rooms are available for Couples, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. Attendees may also opt to find accommodation outside the College. We are, however, unable to assist with outside bookings.
Online registration uses PayPal and opens in December for the following summer’s Symposium. The system accepts payment through all major credit cards for those without PayPal accounts. Should you prefer to pay by cheque, please print and send the attached registration form with your payment. US dollar cheques will be accepted at the exchange rate quoted on the date of posting. We recommend, however that those coming from abroad lock in the best rate of exchange using the online system.
Since places are allotted on a first-come, first- serve basis, please register as early as possible, particularly if you intend to present a paper. The maximum number of places is 230.
If you use option 2 or 3 please also print and post a completed registration form to the registrar (download this PDF). With option 1, your details will be recorded automatically by the system.

Cancellations are refundable up to 5th June 2018, minus a £50.00 administration charge.
Fees are always kept as low as possible. There will not be any increase in fees for the 2018 Symposium (the fourth consecutive year without an increase). A range of options, including whether or not to stay in College and attendance at the Friday and Saturday night dinners, will be found on the registration form. Registered students are entitled to attend the Symposium at a significantly reduced rate. Details of grants and awards available can be found here. Students may now register online but will be required to furnish the Registrar with proof of full time enrolment.
