Booking a place at the Symposium
The Oxford Symposium, a weekend conference on Food and Cookery, held annually at St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, takes place this year from Friday 12th July to Sunday 14th July 2019 on the subject of Food & Power. St. Catz, Oxford’s only Modernist college, was designed by Arne Jacobsen and is considered a modern masterpiece. The College lies just south of the city center, a 10-15 minute walk from the Bodleian Library. Further images and information are on the college website.
St Catz offers a large number of ensuite rooms, which are conveniently located in close proximity to our dining and lecture rooms. They are comfortable, but equipped with single beds and have no air-conditioning. Symposiasts may book these for extra nights before and after the Symposium at the ‘Bed & Breakfast’ rate listed on the registration form. The Symposium is a busy event running a full programme Friday – Sunday. We encourage Symposiasts to consider arriving on the Thursday and leaving on the Monday to ensure there is enough opportunity to fully participate in the Symposium. A limited number of twin-bedded rooms are available for couples, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.Details of how to book additional beds for non-attending partners can be found on our booking page. Attendees may also opt to find accommodation outside the College. We are, however, unable to assist with outside bookings.
Online registration uses PayPal and is now open for the 2019 Symposium. Please note that do you not need to have a PayPal account to pay via PayPal. The system accepts payment through all major credit cards for those without PayPal accounts. Should you prefer to pay by cheque, please print and send the attached registration form with your payment (UK cheques only; our bank no longer accepts dollar or Euro cheques). We recommend, however that those coming from abroad lock in the best rate of exchange using the online system.
Since places are allotted on a first-come, first- served basis, please register as early as possible, particularly if you intend to present a paper. The maximum number of places is 230.
If you use option 2 or 3 please also print and post a completed registration form to the registrar (download this PDF). With option 1, your details will be recorded automatically by the system.

Cancellations are refundable up to 31 May 2019, minus a £100 administration charge.
Fees are always kept as low as possible. A range of options, including whether or not to stay in College and attendance at the Friday and Saturday night dinners, will be found on the registration form. Registered students are entitled to attend the Symposium at a significantly reduced rate. Details of grants and awards available can be found here. Students may now register online but will be required to furnish the Registrar with proof of full time enrolment.
