Meet the 2026 OFS Keynote Speakers

Dr Julian Baggini is the author, co-author, or editor of over 20 books and the founding editor of The Philosophers’ Magazine. He has written for numerous newspapers and magazines, as well as for think tanks such as The Institute of Public Policy Research, Demos, and Counterpoint. He has served as Academic Director of the Royal Institute of Philosophy, is a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Leeds and has been a member of the Food Ethics Council since 2016.

Ms Elizabeth Mpofu is an organic farmer and activist supporting smallholder farmers. She is a former General Coordinator of La Via Campesina, a global movement of 164 organisations in 73 countries promoting sustainable agriculture and social justice. She co-founded and leads the Zimbabwe Smallholder Organic Farmers Forum (ZIMSOFF), and helped found the Eastern and Southern Africa Smallholder Farmers’ Forum (ESAFF), both supporting mostly women farmers. In 2017, she launched the African Women’s Collaborative for Healthy Food Systems, and in 2016 was named UNFAO Special Ambassador for the Year of Pulses in Africa.

Dr Zachary Nowak is the director of The Umbra Institute and a lecturer for the Harvard University Extension School. A historian and environmental geographer, he studies Italian and American food history with a special interest in the relationship (or not) between taste and place. His work examines, among other things, the shifting meanings of foods and their relationships to issues of poverty, migration, and myth-making.
