After many years I finally went to my first Symposium in 2012 and have been coming ever since, to learn, to connect with friends new and old, to be stimulated. Now I’m one of the Trustees. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone, and to conversations and exchanges of ideas, in this virtual forum that allows us to connect, if not to embrace.

I write about home-cooking and food traditions as a way of understanding the world. I’m especially interested in staple foods. My most recent books are Taste of Persia in 2016 and Burma: Rivers of Flavor in 2012. Before that I was co-author (with my now-ex) of six books, including Flatbreads & Flavors; Hot Sour Salty Sweet; Seductions of Rice; and Mangoes & Curry Leaves. I’m Canadian and live in Toronto.
